Poster Abstract: The <i>Open SciServer</i> project implements a transition to sustainability for the SciServer collaborative data-driven science platform. SciServer is a high-impact, highly successful DIBB (data infrastructure building block) with a well-developed existing code base; an established user community; and demonstrated impact on scientific discovery, research, and education. SciServer creates significant impact in multiple science domains including – but not limited to – astronomy; materials science and engineering; turbulence; oceanography; and precision medicine and genomics. To facilitate the transition to sustainability, we work with the NSF Science Gateways Community Institute and the Johns Hopkins Open Source Programs Office (OSPO) to understand and deepen interaction with our user and developer communities.The SciServer transition plan is migrating the code base from closed to open source, enabling expansion of the user community to provide continued evolution of the platform as technologies and science drivers grow. A second major thrust of the transition plan is the creation of simple, rapid cloud deployment with management options to suit the broad range of current and future SciServer users. The SciServer transition to sustainability is also generalizing its educational tools to allow all users to integrate SciServer with curricular efforts and accelerate translation of education to research and workforce development in data-intensive science domains. In this poster we highlight SciServer applications that focus the Open SciServer transition. These are drawn from research applications, data publication, community access, and educational applications. They demonstrate both the maturity of the eponymous SciServer instance at JHU and the possibilities developed by SciServer instances elsewhere.
