Opportunistic pathogen in horses and other mammals. Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus strain:H70

Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus str. H70. This bacterium is part of the normal bacterial flora in horses, however, it has also been isolated from a number of other mammals including humans. S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus is the cause of Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD) in horses. This organism is also an opportunistic pathogen which can cause infections in the upper respiratory tract, uterus, umbilicus and in open wounds.
