Dispersant Approvals (Public) - Feature Service
PLEASE HELP: OSRL makes this tool freely available to support the wider spill response community. Developing and maintaining open-access resources like this requires ongoing investment. If you find it useful, please leave a comment below — your feedback helps us demonstrate the value of keeping these tools publicly available. What this data shows The Dispersant Approvals layer is a global map layer in which each country or territory is represented as a shape on the map. Each shape records the current regulatory approval status of up to six key chemical dispersants used in oil spill response operations: Finasol OSRS2, Dasic Slickgone NS, Dasic Slickgone EW, Corexit 9500a, Corexit 9500, and Corexit 9527. Where approvals exist, the layer also records expiry dates, the approving authority, the source of information, and any applicable use policy conditions. Why it matters Knowing which dispersants are legally permitted to be used — and under what conditions — is a critical part of planning and executing an oil spill response. Regulatory approvals vary significantly between jurisdictions and can change over time. This layer gives the response community rapid visibility of the approval landscape for a given location, reducing the risk of regulatory non-compliance during a fast-moving incident and supporting pre-incident preparedness planning. Key data fields Each country or territory record contains the following information: Field Description Name / Country/Region Country or territory name, sovereign state, and ISO codes Finasol OSRS2 – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Finasol OSRS2 Dasic Slickgone NS – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Dasic Slickgone NS Dasic Slickgone EW – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Dasic Slickgone EW Corexit 9500a – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Corexit 9500a Corexit 9500 – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Corexit 9500 Corexit 9527 – Status / Expiry Approval status and expiry date for Corexit 9527 Dependent on other Approvals Flag and commentary where approval is conditional on other permits or agreements Approval Entity / Source The body that granted the approval and the source document or reference Use Policy Category / Source Any applicable use policy category and source reference, including URL OSRL Dispersant Volume / Breakdown OSRL-held dispersant volumes and textual breakdown for this jurisdiction Comments / Web Links Public-facing commentary and hyperlinks to supporting documentation Coverage This layer has global coverage, encompassing countries and territories worldwide. Coverage reflects the current extent of OSRL's dispersant approval intelligence and is updated as new regulatory information becomes available. Not all countries will have records for all dispersants — absence of a record should not be interpreted as approval or prohibition. Source and lineage This layer is generated by joining two source items: the Dispersant Approvals Table Database (Public), which holds regulatory records compiled and maintained by OSRL's Dispersant Technical Authority, and the Dispersant Areas (Public) feature layer, which provides the underlying geographic boundaries. Approval data is sourced from national regulatory bodies, official government publications, and OSRL's in-house subject matter expertise. Update frequency and currency This layer is updated approximately monthly or as new information is confirmed. Users should treat this data as indicative and verify current approval status with the relevant national authority before operational use. Expiry dates are provided where known and should be checked prior to any response deployment. Visit the Dispersant Approvals Dashboard for more tools and data Maintained by OSRL | www.osrl.com
