Diversity and succession in California deep carbonate aquifer

Mineral and sponge substrates were incubated in a borehole at ~750 m below land surface in several iteration. During incubation 3, carbon and nitrogen was amended via proteinaceous substrate as community disturbance. The 16S data examines substrate-level differences over time as the community responded to the amendment. Relevance to deep biosphere activity measurements and mineral-specific attachment of microorganisms.
