Online purchases did not surge during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in India. According to a survey on Indian online shopping behavior conducted by Rakuten Insight in May 2020, about 59 percent of respondents said that they purchased online during the pandemic as they were practicing social distancing and wanted to minimize their time outside of the home. The most commonly purchased items were food and groceries, personal hygiene products, and household cleaning products.
