Two laboratory-scale AnMBRs were built to investigate the effect of ZnO-NPs on their performance, and the recovery phase was also examined. Results showed that the addition of ZnO-NPs with 0.4 mg/L caused moderate deteriorations of AnMBR performance, including decrements of COD removal efficiency and biogas production. The presence of ZnO-NPs also induced significant increment in the soluble microbial products (SMP) which partially reflecting by excitation-emission matrix (EEM), while it exhibited no obvious effect on colloid except for causing an increased fluctuation of colloid concentration. GC-MS was conducted for permeate analysis, aiming to detect the composition changes of alkenes, alkanes, esters etc. The microbial community was compared using high-throughput sequencing, clearly showing the changes in both the bacteria and achaeal community.
