Mural cells interact with macrophages in the dural meninges to regulate CNS immune surveillance

We sought to elucidate the cell-cell communication, primarily between pericytes and macrophages, within the dura mater compared to other relevant tissues (leptomeninges and brain) in pre-symptomatic EAE and at the onset of symptoms. Pdgfrb-CreER/T2::Rosa-DTR mice were treated with tamoxifen to induce expression of diphtheria toxin receptor (DTR) on PDGFRb+ cells. EAE was induced via MOG immunization and dura mater, leptomeninges, and brain (cortex) isolated 7 or 14 days later.
