资源简介:
These data were collected from a series of experiments where two hypotheses were tested to investigate whether access to extrafloral nectar (EFN) produced by Phaseolus vulgaris (common bean) can protect companion Zea mays (maize): (1) access to EFN enhances the survival and performance of a parasitoid wasp leading to increased parasitism of fall armyworm (FAW) caterpillars on accompanying maize and reduced herbivory, and (2) bean plants can detect maize herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) and respond by increasing EFN secretion. The "wasp_diet_experiment.xls" file provides the data relating to an experiment where EFN, honey, and water were offered to parasitoid wasps and their survival, longevity, and fecundity were measured. The "Associational_Resistance.csv" file provides the data for a mesocosom experiment were EFN was either unmanipulated or blocked(clogged) on bean plants and the survival of parasitoids, FAW parasitism, and maize damage was recorded. The "volatile_ mediated_EFN_secretion.csv" file provides the data for an experiment where the amount of bean EFN secretion was measured when exposed to FAW-damaged and undamaged maize plants. The "maize_HIPVs" file provides the data for an experiment where the headspace volatiles of FAW-damaged and undamaged maize were collected and analyzed with a GC-MS.
