"Tube Triodes of the Cavendish Laboratory and Other British Companies"

"This article examines the organization of research and development of vacuum tube technology in Great Britain from the beginning of World War I to the mid-1920s. Early vacuum tube triode designs developed at the Cavendish Laboratory are examined, highlighting their shortcomings. An explanation is provided for the choice of the French R tube as the prototype for the serial production of British triodes by Osram-Robertson and BTH. Attention is paid to the development of high-power oscillator triodes by Marconi, which were used in 1922 in the transmitter of the first British broadcasting station, 2MT Writtle. An analysis is also provided of the significance of radio technologies developed by A. C. Cossor Limited, a leader in the early 1920s vac-uum tube production in Great Britain."
