VPRS 471 Authority to Appoint Justices of the Peace as Guardians of Minors

Under the Marriage and Matrimonial Causes Statute 1865 the Chief Justice was to appoint in every district of a registrar or deputy registrar of births deaths and marriages some justice or justices able to give written consent to the marriage of a minor where a parent or guardian was unavailable or incapable of doing so. For this purpose, the justice was to act as the guardian of the minor.This series contains the files pertaining to each appointment of a justice to fulfil this function. Each file contains the Commission as signed by the Chief Justice and may contain an acknowledgment of the receipt of the copy of the Commission by the appointee and correspondence regarding the appointment of the person.
