PISCO UCSB Subtidal Fish Recruitment Data

This metadata record documents the recruitment monitoring study for
PISCO subtidal. The dataset describes the recruitment of juvenile
fishes to artificial substrate from 2000-2018 at sites around the
Santa Barbara Channel and Northern Channel Islands. Artificial
collectors known as Standardized Monitoring Units for the Recruitment
of Fishes (SMURFs) were sampled approximately every two weeks to
provide a time series of recruitment patterns independent of the
availability and quality of nearby habitat. The main purpose of this
study is to measure spatial and temporal patterns of juvenile fish
settlement to understand the effects of oceanography and anthropogenic
