Small mammal community composition in the Diannan area: Long-term monitoring (2005-2017)

As one of the richest areas of mammal diversity in China, the Hengduanshan region is also a major source and endemic area for many natural epidemics. However, few studies have been conducted to assess the effects of habitat differences and anthropogenic disturbances on small mammal community structure through continuous monitoring in one area of this region. As a representative taxon for studying the effects of environmental changes on biodiversity, examining the community structure of small mammals can indicate the quality of local habitats and offer data to support ecological conservation efforts.
Surveys were conducted within Diannan area by deploying rat cages. Cages were randomly deployed in four main habitats (agricultural fields, shrublands, residential areas, and vegetable fields) from January 2005 to December 2017. ## Description of the data and file structure

Specific information about the sampling sites can be found in the file \"sampling sites_2005-2017\". In this study, we selected four habitats for sampling, with twelve sampling points in each habitat. The file includes the latitude and longitude of the sampling points, the main plants at each sampling point, and the abbreviated names of the sampling sites as they appear in \"smallmammals_survey_2005-2017\".
