We aimed to understand how phytoplankton are transported to the mesopelagic zone and contribute to the biological pump in the Sea of Japan. We collected sinking particles using a sediment trap moored at 890 m depths from June 22, 2022 to May 25, 2023 and phytoplankton communities in sinking particles were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing
