fid_neo_supp.csv - Includes data on flight initiation distances (FIDs) and the time taken to resume incubation in the presence of a novel object (incubation recess durations) for individual Kentish plovers. Columns include: nest_id = identity of the nest. b_id = identity of the bird. F_year = year of study (2020, 2021, 2022). j_trial_date = Julian date of the trial. FID= Flight initiation distance in metres. incubation_recess = incubation recess duration in seconds. inc_day = number of full days of incubation since clutch completion. time = time of day (morning vs evening). sex = sex (male or female). visibility = visibility from the parents view (fully visible, partly visible or fully obscured). temp_mean = estimated local thermal environment of the nest in degrees Celsius at the time of the trial. Clutch_size = number of eggs in completed clutch. cap_b4_trial = whether the bird was captured in the same breeding season before the trial began (1 = yes, 0 = no). habitat = habitat of the nest (grass = grassland, semid = semidesert, sm = saltmarsh). observer = initials of the observer conducting the trial. eag_long_supp.csv - Includes data on the time taken to resume incubation for individual Kentish plovers from the Incubation Eagerness Experiment. Columns include: nest_id = identity of the nest. TREATMENT = experimental treatment (NO = novel object, ZO = zero object). order = factor for the order of the treatment in the paired back-to-back trial (i.e. first or second). incubation_recess = incubation recess duration in seconds. b_id = identity of the bird. Year = year of study (2020, 2021, 2022). j_trial_date = Julian date of the trial.
