Methanogenic microbial communities were enriched from rice paddy soil and an anaerobic digester using peptidoglycan purified from gram-negative Escherichia coli and gram-positive Micrococcus luteus as the sole substrate. Microbial community analysis for the enriched cultures was performed on an Illumina MiSeq platform.
