Super Pangenome of Vitis empowers resistance gene identification against downy mildew for grapevine improvement

Grapevine (Vitis) is one of the oldest domesticated fruit crop with great cultural and economical importance. However, artificial selections have yielded narrow genetic diversity in modern grapevine cultivars causing their reduced adaptability. To date, few studies have comprehensively investigated the genome evolution and diversity of the Vitis genus, impeding the application of such diversity in grapevine improvement.
