Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli has been implicated as a common cause of acute and persistent diarrhea and a cause of linear growth faltering among children in low-income countries. We here report a colistin-resistant enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) genome isolated from an immunocompromised patient having diarrhea. The presence of the mgrB gene in the genome highlights its role in colistin resistance, the last resort of antibiotics. Further, the strain belongs to the sequence type (ST) 38, which is known as enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC)/uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) hybrid strain with multi-drug resistance (MDR) potential. The resistance and virulence potential emanating from this strain will be significant in boosting the development of new diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines.
