资源简介:
An alternating stratigraphic pollen column was excavated at Hell's Half Acre County Park, 40 miles west of Casper, Wyoming. Fifteen pollen samples, including a modern surface sample, were selected from the column, which represents stratified layers that include multiple occupations. Radiocarbon ages of 1920 ± 40 BP and 1970 ± 50 BP anchor the lowest occupation at a depth of approximately 112 cm, while an age of 1320 ± 80 BP ties in the upper occupation at a depth of 30 cm. Pollen analysis was undertaken to provide information concerning local and regional vegetation and to provide a reconstruction of paleoenvironmental conditions at the site. One sample from the lower portion of the stratigraphic column represents the cultural occupation level. Two samples pre-date this occupation, while the remainder of the samples represent more recent deposition of sediments.
