Pepper (Capsicum annuum) was grown in an open-top chamber experimental site and exposed so elevated ozone and pathogen infection (Xanthomonas perforans) in a complete factorial design. Leaves from the upper canopy at midseason were selected for RNA extraction and mRNA sequencing. Two cultivars of pepper were used in this experiment, a Xanthomonas-resistant cultivar (PS 09979325) and Xanthomonas-susceptible cultivar (Early Calwonder). The goal of this experiment is to understand how pepper plants respond to individual and combined abiotic and biotic stress at the level of the whole transcriptome.
