Dataset: Prevalence and Risk Factors of Scabies among Under-Five-Year-Old Children in Mafinga District, Zambia

This dataset contains anonymized information collected for the study titled “Prevalence and Risk Factors of Scabies among Under-Five-Year-Old Children in Mafinga District, Zambia.” Data were collected between [14–24 April, 2024] at Zumbe Health Post and surrounding communities using structured caregiver questionnaires and clinical examinations. The dataset includes demographic characteristics, household environmental factors, hygiene practices, and clinical diagnosis outcomes of scabies among children under five years old. The data were cleaned and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics (version 16.0). Identifiers have been removed to ensure participant confidentiality. Variables include:– Age and sex of child– Caregiver demographics and education– Household crowding and sanitation indicators– Frequency of bathing and bedding hygiene– History of itching or scabies diagnosis– Clinical findings from examination These data support the findings reported in the associated manuscript submitted to PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. Ethical approval: The study protocol was approved by the National Health Research Authority (NHRA) (Protocol No: NHRA0006/07/09/2023) , and written informed consent was obtained from all caregivers prior to participation.
