Images and Site Records from an Archaeological Evaluation at Greenland Street/Parliament Square, Liverpool, August 2021

This collection comprises images and site records from an archaeological evaluation at the land at Greenland Street/Parliament Street, Liverpool. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology North in August 2021. This project comprised the excavation of five small evaluation trenches. The results of the investigation were limited, as the extensive phases of construction on the land since the 1800s had already destroyed most archaeological remains. While extensive demolition deposits were observed, very limited remains relating to post medieval structural features were observed in several trenches. These remains comprised brick-built floor or other structural features, several of which may relate to the early industrial period remains of the Liver Foundry. However, these remains had almost entirely been removed to the last foundation courses, and were generally in a poor state of preservation.
