The rhizosphere is a nexus for organismal interaction and nutrient cycling. This study was conducted to determine the impact of rhizosphere growth on carbon cycling and inter-organismal interaction. Soil was collected from Hopland, CA and used to fill microcosms planted with Avena fatua. The samples collected for sequencing came from: the rhizosphere alone, the detritusphere (aged root litter), rhizosphere with litter, and unamended soil. These metatranscriptome reads and metatranscriptome assemblies came from 48 distinct soil habitats across time.
