We investigated changes in the digestive gland transcriptome of zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) exposed to psychotropic drugs. Overall design: The sampling of organisms was done during Spring (April). After an acclimation period of 10 days during which field water was progressively replaced with Cristaline spring water, mussels were exposed during 16 days to 16.3nM sertraline (antidepressant), 16.3nM carbamazepine (antiepileptic drug), or the mixture, at 12 celsius degree and under natural photoperiod. A control group was also used. The RNA samples from the digestive gland of 5 mussels were extracted per condition, and the gene expression profiles of each exposed conditions were explored. This study brought new data on the molecular effects of two pharmaceutical compounds commonly found in surface waters, on zebra mussels.
