No study to date has uncovered the complete transcriptomic landscape of cnidocytes or the venom producing cells of the phylum Cnidaria, impeding our understanding of the biology, development, and evolution of these complex organelles. Hence, we sequenced the transcriptomes of developing and mature cnidocytes from the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis, a rising model organism for the study of cnidarian biology.
