The Supplementary Materials contains: Table S1, which tabulates the relative distribution of n-alkane homologues across soils, roots and separated fractions collected across forest, grassland and mixed ecosystems Table S2, which tabulates the relative distribution of n-alkanoic acids homologs across soils, root sand separated fractions collected across forest, grassland and mixed ecosystems.
