Skin Repair Plus Ointment (Remanco) is an upgraded version of the traditional Jordanian cream used for decades to heal burn injuries and as an alternative cure in northern Jordan. We investigated the therapeutic effects of Remanco on burn wound healing morphology and molecular changes. In this randomized controlled trial, 90 Wistar rats (160-170 grams) were randomly assigned to three groups of 30. The groups included a negative control (normal saline), a positive control (1% silver sulfadiazine), and a test group (Remanco cream). The rats' shaved dorsums were burned with a preheated circular copper head device 30 mm in diameter. Normal saline, 1% silver sulfadiazine, or Remanco cream was applied daily to the burns for 30 days or until the animals were killed. Remanco cream was tested for wound healing using gross, histological, and RT-PCR methods. Despite no statistically significant difference in wound area measurements or histological assessments, the Remanco cream-treated group had a significantly improved esthetic appearance. The Remanco-treated group had a substantial rise in TGF-beta on day 3 and IGF-1 on day 9 (p-value < 0.05). In conclusion, Remanco cream may improve wound healing in animal models, but further research is needed before it can be used clinically.
