These files reflect the variety of activities undertaken by the State Pollution Control Commission. The files contain correspondence relating to the following subjects: policy matters; reports of investigations; Commonwealth/State and interdepartmental committees and conferences in which the Commission was involved; publicity campaigns such as Anti-litter campaigns and Keep Australia Beautiful; publications of environmental studies and guidelines, as well as complaints of noise and air pollution; objections to the establishment of industrial and extractive undertakings; and requests for information on chemical pesticides and pollutants. Early files relate to policy, duties and administrative structure of the Commission and its relationship with other public and private agencies.The registered files are arranged by a chronological classified number. The classified number is generally prefixed by the year of the file registration but not all files contain this prefix.Earlier papers on the files date from 1964.
