Atypical COVID-19 disease may result in prolonged shedding (>30 days) of viral RNA in the nasal pharyngeal cavity of infected patients. It is unknown if prolonged infection may result in an increased rate of evolution of viral variants within patients. In this retrospective study we analyzed sequence variation of SARS-CoV-2 in twelve patients with multiple positive clinical samples (range 12 - 52 days).
