VPRS 856 Schedules of Approved Lease, License and Grant Applications, Various Sections Amending Land Act 1865 and Land Act 1869

This series consists of copies of schedules listing those persons both approved and not approved for the issuing of licenses to occupy land under Sections 2, and 56 Land Act 1869, leases under Section 45 and Crown grants under sections 31, 40 and 96. Lists (or Schedules) were prepared after approval by the Board of Land and Works (VA 744) and, where required, by the Governor-in-Council. These schedules were printed in the Government Gazette.Details given on the schedules are the name of the applicant or of individuals involved in a transfer, the number of the license (if approved), the location of the land, the date of the license, grant or lease, the amount to be collected and the location of the Receiver of Revenue where amounts were payable. Details refer to all areas of Victoria.Section 2 of the Land Act 1869 allowed the reissue of licenses to occupy land under Section 42 Amending Land Act 1865 even though that Act had been repealed. Section 31 allowed for the purchase of the land by licensed occupiers under Section 42 Amending Land Act 1865. Section 40 Land Act 1869 provided for the sale of detached strips of land under certain specific conditions whilst Section 96 allowed for the purchase of roads not required for public use and convenience which had been closed to be sold to the owner of adjoining lands. Section 45 provided for the occupation of Crown lands for a wide diversity of purposes whilst Section 56 allowed for licenses to be issued for the cutting of races and the diversion of water for mill purposes.
