Affected households & Workshops

The datasets presented here were collected during a study on the assessment of community vulnerability to flooding in the city of Basse in the Upper-river region of The Gambia between 2013 and 2015.

Pictures and videos taken highlight the extent of property damage that have resulted from the impacts of a flood event that occurred in July 2015 in the settlements of Kaba-Kama and Basse-Layout.
The majority of households affected were located in Kaba-Kama, where constructions are mainly made with mud compared to Basse-Layout where the majority of houses are built with concrete blocks.

The destructions captured were mainly destroyed compound toilets, rooms, clothing, books, collapsed fences and roofs, muddy yards, damaged workshop machines, domestic pets/poultry carried away by the runoff, and injuries. The wells used in households’ daily needs were also greatly affected with potential health danger due to its impure state (change in color, etc.).
