资源简介:
The Nowiski House, located on 185 Strathcona Avenue, reflects the style of its surroundings through its vernacular architecture, brick cladding and masonry foundation. Built-in 1910, this building remained a residential site and has sheltered 3 different families with the third still living there. The building was also renovated in the 1950s in order to provide larger living space on the second floor so that rooms could be rented out to tenants. The Nowiski House is not recognized as a heritage structure, however, it stands out in its community for its lavish front deck and patterned ornamentation. Contextually, The Nowiski House is culturally connected to its surroundings through similarities in Architecture. For example, the house that sits directly beside The Nowiski House is its exact twin. However, its twin hasn’t been renovated since its construction. Also, its proximity to bank street, which is a shopping and business development district, gives it a sense of community. This is the Integrated Project Dossier compiled by a group of undergraduate students of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Program (Engineers and architects) at Carleton University for the CIVE3207 (ARCN4100) Historic Site Recording and Assessment course in 2016.
