Gene database of Methylococcus capsulatus strain Bath

<i>Methylococcus capsulatus</i> is an obligate methanotrophic Gram-negative non-motile coccid bacterium. Able to metabolize methane and methanol, the microorganism has been used in the production of animal feed from natural gas. Much remains to be known about this bacterium that typically presents itself in the diplococcoid mode. This work sought to unveil the genetic repertoire of <i>M. capsulatus</i> strain Bath with annotated genome sequence downloaded from Genbank. Using an in-house MATLAB software, the annotated genome sequence of the bacterium was parsed into a database comprising gene name, gene function, and gene sequence. The resource should be useful for the molecular cloning of interesting genes for exploring their biotechnological potential in other species such as <i>Escherichia coli</i>, as well as informing genome editing research in constructing loss-of-function mutants for understanding gene function in the bacterium.
