Mussels ability to reduce heavy metals (and rare earth elements) pollution was evaluated in field by translocating mussels from unpolluted Lake Maggiore to polluted Lake Orta. Metals and rare earth elements were quantified in mussel soft tissues (short-term accumulation) and shells (long-term accumulation), alongside sediment analysis. Dataset lists elements (heavy metals) concentrations in mussels' tissues and shells and in sediments of Lake Maggiore (Baveno) and Lake Orta (Orta and Gozzano) measured after translocation from a donor population (uncontaminated site) to the polluted site (Lake Orta)
