Access and Execute Machine Learning and AI Models in Excel

**Overview**
With Exponam.Connect, users can execute Databricks ML Models, from the Marketplace or Custom, directly in Excel without any code or Databricks knowledge.

Additionally, the Exponam.Connect Excel Add-in easily brings Databricks Marketplace and Delta Lake data directly into Excel for end users of all technical ability.

**Availability and License requirements**
Currently, Exponam.Connect **Model Execution** is only available on the Windows version of Exponam.Connect. Model execution functionality requires a license or a trial license.

**Product details**
The Exponam.Connect Excel Add-in is a simple tool for business (non-technical) users to execute ML Models in Excel. This is a tool for Model execution, not model creation. With this tool, existing Models are exercised with parameter inputs from Excel worksheets.

Model results are written directly into an Excel cell (if a single value), or into a one or two dimensional array of cells. More complex result sets can be viewed in Raw JSON format or in a Verbose key pair/value format.

Users do not need any Databricks knowledge (and, indeed, do not even need to know that Databricks clusters are computing their results). Users do not need any coding knowledge - SQL or other.

Users are guided by the UI through the process of entering required parameters (either discreet values or cell references) for the Model. Once entered, the user can copy the resulting Excel Function and paste wherever desired, or click “Apply” and the formula will be entered into the active Excel cell.

Once entered, the custom function will immediately call the Databricks Model Serving Endpoint and will compute the output.

Users can bypass the UI formula builder and enter custom Excel functions directly into cells by following the model function’s template.

**Additional Exponam.Connect Functionality**
Exponam.Connect can also be used to access Databricks Delta Lake and Marketplace data directly in Excel without any technical configuration or setup beyond the scope of ordinary Excel and business-focused users. If a user can create a column filter in Excel, they can comfortably interact with billions of rows of data. They can work with millions of rows in Excel (spread over multiple sheets, subject to machine limitations).

- The Exponam.Connect Excel Add-in is a no-code, highly intuitive application designed for use without prior instruction or user manual.
- Users are guided via clear instructional hints to add their connection information for Delta Share server(s). Connection information is retained for easy re-use every time the application is opened.
- Familiar tool symbols and buttons guide them through filtering data, including or excluding columns, and saving filtered views.
- Users import data and extensive meta-data to the worksheet(s) of their choosing.
- Users may elect to save data directly to a file for sharing, storing and distribution.

*Licensing for Data Access* - Users do NOT require a license to start using Exponam.Connect for Data Access. However, data results are limited and some functionality is not available without a license. **Installation**
- Prerequisite: Excel must be installed
- Download and Install Excel Add-in:

**Configure ML Model Execution**
- (Note) Model Execution is a premium feature which requires a paid or trial license
