Aeromonas caviae A23 was isolated from chicken at a supermarket in Shenzhen, China on Auguest 14th, 2013. A. hydrophila, A. caviae (synonymous with A. punctata) and A. veronii bv. sobria are of most clinical significance among Aeromonas species in terms of their pathogenic potential. In this project, we sequence the whole genome of A23 positive for blaPER-3, which is a extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) belonging to Ambler class A. Furthermore, the genetic context of blaPER-3 was investigated and the related mobile element ISCR1 was characterized.
