1ES 1927+654: an extreme case of true type 2 Seyfert

We propose a simultaneous XMMNewton and TNG optical and NearInfraredobservation of 1ES 1927+654, a type 2 Seyfert galaxy with no Xray absorption.The ROSAT and Chandra observations of this source revealed persistent, rapid andlarge scale variations requiring the lineofsight to the nucleus to be freefrom absorption. However, the optical spectrum is typical of Seyfert 2 galaxies.Notably, the measured intrinsic neutral Xray column density is not enough toobscure the broadline region. Simultaneous XMMNewton, optical andNearInfrared observations are mandatory to confirm the lack of broad emissionlines and the lack of Xray absorption, excluding variability issues.
