资源简介:
This study focuses on the detection, characterization, and genomic analysis of multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from ornamental birds in Bangladesh. K. pneumoniae is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause serious infections in humans and animals, and its resistance to critical antibiotics such as extended-spectrum beta-lactams (ESBL) and carbapenems poses a significant public health threat. Ornamental birds, which are popular pets, may serve as reservoirs for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, potentially contributing to the spread of these pathogens in households and surrounding environments. In this study, fecal samples were collected from ornamental birds housed in pet shops and households. A multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae isolate was identified and subjected to whole-genome sequencing to investigate its antimicrobial resistance genes, virulence factors, and genomic characteristics. The generated draft genome provides insights into the genetic determinants of resistance and helps assess the potential risks of transmission to humans and other animals. The project aims to enhance our understanding of the role of ornamental birds as carriers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, contributing to the broader efforts of surveillance and mitigation of antimicrobial resistance in One Health contexts. The genomic data from this study can support future research on bacterial evolution, resistance mechanisms, and epidemiology, ultimately informing public health strategies and policy-making in Bangladesh and beyond.
