Head with Inscribed Glyphs at the British Museum, London

Portrait heads were worn suspended from waist belts by members of the ruling lineage to legitimise their hereditary right to rule. This head was found near Copan, although the glyphic text names a lord from Palenque. The mother of Yax-Pac, the last king of Copan, was from Palenque; she may have brought the head to Copan at the time of her marriage. This object is part of Scan The World.
