Additional file 1. Step by step details of corpus construction, with each step of searching and screening listed in a separate tab. 0_Initial Target Papers: list of initial papers and extracted features exemplifying target article types, used to construct PubMed search strategy. 1_Pubmed Search (2005–5.28.24): complete list of 11,104 PubMed search results. 2_Title Screening: PubMed metadata for 570 titles remaining after first screening step based on titles and PubMed summary statements. 3_Abstract Screening: results of second screening step based on abstracts with PMID, inclusion decision (Include (I), Exclude (E), and Check Full Text (C)), and brief justification for each study. 4a_Full Text Screening Includes: metadata for 127 studies included after full-text screening. 4b_Full Text Screening Excludes: metadata for 256 studies excluded after full-text screening. 5_Post hoc additions: metadata for 1 study included after completion of bulk screening.
