In this study, we investigated the role of VFAs in carbon and P cycling and on microbial activity in two full-scale WRRFs that share the same S2EBPR configuration, leveraging both 16S rRNA gene-based qSIP and metagenomic qSIP. We also utilized functional potential and activity inferences based on qSIP metagenomics to explore life-history dynamics of active members within an acetate-rich S2EBPR environment, and identify potentially novel PAOs
