It was our goal to discern the epigenomic signatures of the ventral hippocampus, in male and female mice in a double hit model of acute stress: one hit of acute restraint stress followed by forced swim stress one week later. Overall design: At 2.5 months of age, mice were randomly assigned to either acute restraint stress (ARS), forced swim stress (FSS), double-hit stress, namely mice undergoing FSS that were previously exposed to ARS, or control groups. Animals exposed to ARS were only exposed to acute stress one week prior to sacrifice. FSS mice were only exposed to acute stress on the day of sacrifice. Double-hit mice were exposed to acute stress at both time points.
