Trichius_species_Romania

The genus Trichius comprises small Palaearctic beetles, well-known for species variability and the peculiar inconsistency of the species Trichius gallicus. Our detailed study revealed that the genus Trichius had been misidentified in the past in Romania. We re-examined 1,310 specimens from museum collections and private collections from Romania and this comprehensive analysis showed that only two Trichius species, T. fasciatus and T. sexualis, are found in Romania. For each species, we provided an identification key for the examined specimens, data on previous findings in Romania, information on the specimens analyzed and the geographic distribution within Romania.
