Study of the viromes in invasive alien snails. invertebrate metagenome

Invasive snails of different species could be the intermediate hosts of parasites of medical importance and pose risks as pathogen vectors to public health, which occur more frequently in subtropics and tropics. However, it is hardly known the viruses that the snail species may carry and whether they are of medical significance. To discover the viruses that may exist at an extreme low level in the snail tissues, approaches for virus enrichment should be evaluated before extraction of viral nucleic acids. Here, we systematically evaluated the virus enrichment from the tissues of two snail species, Pomacea canaliculata and Achatina fulica, which have increasingly affected the health of humans and animals.
