VPRS 17285 Register of Building Permit Applications

This series comprises the register of applications for building permits submitted to the Melbourne City Council. The register comprises a number of volumes each of which includes several indexes to the applications registered in that volume. The indexes are by name of builder, owner and location or situation of the property. The indexes appear at the front of volumes with application registrations appearing sequentially on pages in the back part of the volumes. Permit applications are registered in a single number sequence. Files and plans associated with applications may be found in VPRS 11201 and VPRS 11200 respectively. There are a number of other indexes and registers to building permit applications covering different periods or that performed additional or different functions, or provide access to additional or different records. There is an index by address in VPRS 11202 that provides references to a variety of permit types including building permits.After 1959 it appears that this series was discontinued with the register replaced by a sequential accumulation of original applications for permits VPRS 17286, and separate indexes being created.
