Leptospirosis and Climate in Brazil (2008-2023)

DESCRIPTION:This dataset contains integrated data on confirmed human leptospirosis cases and meteorological variables for Brazilian state capitals from 2008 to 2023.

DATA SOURCES:- Epidemiological data: Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), Brazilian Ministry of Health (https://datasus.saude.gov.br/acesso-a-informacao/doencas-e-agravos-de-notificacao-de-2007-em-diante-sinan/)- Meteorological data: National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) (https://portal.inmet.gov.br/dadoshistoricos)

GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE:- Capitals of all Brazilian states, except Amapá (AP) and Roraima (RR), which were excluded due to inconsistent or missing meteorological data  during the analyzed period.

TIME PERIOD:- 2008 to 2023 (monthly data)

VARIABLES INCLUDED:

Epidemiological:- State/Capital (state abbreviation)- Year (2008-2023)- Month (January-December)- Confirmed leptospirosis cases (number of cases)

Meteorological (monthly aggregated):- Total monthly precipitation (mm)- Monthly average temperature (°C)- Average relative humidity (%)

DATA PROCESSING:Data were extracted, cleaned, standardized, and aggregated monthly using Python 3.10 in Google Colab. Transformations included:- Standardization of capital names (conversion from municipal codes to state abbreviations)- Treatment of missing or inconsistent data- Temporal aggregation of meteorological variables (monthly averages)- Temporal integration of SINAN and INMET databases

FORMAT:- CSV file with UTF-8 encoding- Delimiter: comma (,)- 4,800 rows × 7 columns
