Priorities and barriers for ageing well; results from stakeholder workshops in rural and urban Rwanda

The National Older Person’s Policy of 2021 in Rwanda highlights the need for social protection of older populations. However, there is a lack of local knowledge regarding the priorities and challenges to healthy aging faced by older people and their caregivers.This study aimed to identify and compare the needs and priorities of older people and other stakeholders involved in caring for them in rural and urban areas of Rwanda.The study was conducted in two locations, Kigali (urban) and Burera district (rural). Each site hosted two separate one-day workshops with older people (60 years) and stakeholders (all ages). Discussions were held in plenary and roundtable-groups to generate a list of the top 4 prioritized responses on areas of importance, priorities/enablers to be addressed, and obstacles to living a healthy and active life for older people. The research team identified similarities between stakeholder and older people’s responses in each area and a socioecological model was used to categorize findings.

2021年卢旺达国家老年人政策强调了保障老年人口社会权益的必要性。然而，目前对老年人及其照料者面临的健康老龄化优先事项和挑战的本土知识尚显不足。本研究旨在识别并比较卢旺达城乡地区老年人口及其他相关利益相关者在照料方面的需求和优先级。研究在基加利（城市）和布雷拉区（农村）两个地点进行，每个地点分别举办了两个针对老年人（60岁）和利益相关者（所有年龄段）的单独一天研讨会。通过全体会议和圆桌讨论，旨在生成关于重要领域的前四项优先响应清单、待解决优先事项/促进因素以及老年人健康活跃生活的障碍。研究团队识别了每个领域利益相关者和老年人响应的相似之处，并运用社会生态学模型对研究结果进行分类。
