This repository contains the .laz files associated with the unpublished study: “Tiede, J, Reinke, K, Jones, S & Nguyen T 2025, ‘A Comparison of Mobile Laser Scanning Data Acquisition Methods in Closed Forest, Woodland, and Alpine Ecosystems’, Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation” Use of these datasets should cite the paper above. Data capture was completed using a Hovermap Mobile Laser scanner in backpack configuration. The Hovermap MLS uses a time-of-flight VLP-16 Lite LiDAR sensor with a vertical and horizontal beam divergence of 1.5 mrad and 3.0 mrad respectively, a maximum operating range of 100 m, and an absolute accuracy of +/- 30 mm. Data was collected from three locations in south-east Australia: Strathbogie State Forest, Warrandyte National Park, and the summit of Mount Baw Baw. Data collection occurred between March and May 2024. Each .laz file contains the point cloud data for a single scan. Repeat surveys were completed in each study plot resulting in 5 .laz files per study plot.
