Institutions for the Mentally Deficient: Working Environment, I

The purpose of the survey is to describe the working environment of the day-and-night treatment institutions belonging under what used to be called the Care of the Mentally Deficient Department (Åndssvageforsorgen). Questionnaires were sent to the members of staff at these institutions (personnel questionnaires) as well as to the heads of each care unit, or ward (care unit questionnaires, see DDA-0696). #Specific problems dealt with in this survey are: working hours, health, e.g. stress, locomotor symptoms (back trouble, lumbar symptoms), work-related accidents and violent residents (clients), family conditions, etc. #The survey comprises all categories of staff (trained as well as unskilled staff) employed in permanent jobs and working directly with the handicapped residents at the day-and-night treatment institutions: assistants, trained welfare workers, deputies, heads of wards (or care units) and principals. Temporary sub- stitutes, office staff, kitchen staff and workmen have not been included as their working environment is totally different
