Introduction The Lunar Meteoroid Impacts Observer (LUMIO) is an upcoming CubeSat mission performing a demo of lunar CubeSat technologies, operating in an Earth-Moon L2 halo orbit. The main objective is to detect meteoroid impact flashes (LIF) on the lunar far side for science & exploration hazard assessment. To learn more about LUMIO mission, visit this page. This dataset contains synthetic images of the Moon and Lunar Impact Flashes (LIFs) as seen by the LUMIO-Cam, generated by the simulator internally developed at DART Lab (Politecnico di Milano). The simulator is based on the ABRAM render engine, a physically-based render engine for celestial bodies, available for open-access at this link. Contents Each folder contains a sequence of simulated LUMIO-Cam frames over a defined time window, together with per-frame metadata for both the Moon and the LIF, and a ground-truth database of every injected LIF event across the simulation. More information on how the dataset was generated can be found in the aareadme.txt file. Every frame can be re-created in ABRAM using the corresponding <filename.yml> configuration file with the call: rend = abram.render(<filename.yml>); Textures used for the Moon renderings are available for download here. The same method applies to generate the image of the LIF. Then, you can stitch the two images one over the other to obtain the final image. The image in the dataset will the same except for the noise contributions, which have random components and are generated differently in the dataset pipeline, starting from the Moon and LIF noise-free energy contributions and applying the noise models only once.
