NZ School Enrolment Zones

Last updated: 18 May 2026 Data date: 29 April 2026 Projection: New Zealand Transverse Mercator (NZTM) This layer is based on the dataset Enrolment Scheme Home Zones retrieved from the Ministry of Education. It contains contains the NZ School Enrolment Zone boundaries by the Ministry of Education. This version contains the zones for all education institution types and has been created for map creation/cartographic purposes and does not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. This layer contains all the institution types. If you only want to show a specific (set) of institution types, simply apply a filter. The layer is generalised by Eagle Technology for improved performance on the web, therefore it doesn't fully represent the official boundaries. An Enrolment Scheme Home Zone is a means of limiting the roll to prevent overcrowding at a school, and enables the Ministry of Education to make best use of the current accommodation at schools in the surrounding area. Each enrolment scheme must contain a home zone with clearly defined boundaries. Students who live in the home zone have an absolute right to enrol at the school.
